"In this heartwarming short film, Brian, faced with his son Arthur's leukemia diagnosis, spins a hopeful tale, convincing Arthur that chemotherapy will grant him superpowers. Together, they embark on an inspiring journey to uncover Arthur's 'powers,' forging a bond that transcends illness and celebrates the resilience of a father-son relationship."
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
As an immigrant from Mexico, my intention with this film is to touch on key aspects of my experience that I haven’t often seen portrayed on screen. I did not speak English until the age of 15, and I find that a lot of native English speakers cannot relate to struggles that arise from being in a country with a different native tongue. My biggest goal is to put people who only speak one language in the shoes of those who are doing their best to learn another, to feel their frustration and pain as they struggle to communicate their thoughts.
The language spoken in the short is fictional and is never meant to be understood. The fact that we never hear the protagonist's native language is also very intentional. I want the story to feel as universal as possible, a story that any immigrant of any nation could go through. We are all human, regardless of the context of our mother tongue. In the end, humanity itself is the universal language, a language we must all strive to better speak and understand.
