DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
This is a story, ultimately, about the relationship between a father and son. It’s about the resilience needed in giving comfort and strength to loved ones going through cancer treatment. It’s also about how the lies we tell to protect our children, can haunt them. Cancer is like an underwater explosion, largely undetected and invisible but the waves and ripples can stretch wide, affecting much more than just the host body.
As the title explains, this journey shows us how one man goes about saving his son, Arthur, from the dread of death and existentialism that terminal illnesses can make us face. It’s a tender touch on children with cancer, that has a chilling and eerie horror element as characterized by a looming figure of death that is slowly getting close to Arthur. Whilst he endures the draining side effects of chemotherapy, Brian has to figure out a way to stop death coming for Arthur by becoming his anchor, his protector and his best friend.
